Sistahs, why ya been holding out on the butters?

(so if you haven't seen the youtube vid with the girl mad at black people for hiding the butters then you don't get the reference. But read on anyway)

So, I tried raw shea butter early on in the game. I put a little in my palm and rubbed to emulsify before putting on my hair. Nothing spectacular so, I moved on to trying other things in building my regi. That was early 2010.

Saturday, I went to Atlantic Station and found a vendor that sells hand-mixed shea butter scented with oils. I decided to support my local african american entrepreneur and spurchased unscented (hey. for five buck I can add my own essential oils. I want to help but this is a recession ). When I got home, I decided to "butter" my hair by unbraiding, applying, finger detangling and then braiding my hair back up. My hair (and my skin, for that matter) felt wonderfully moisturized and had a beautiful, healthy sheen.

I fell asleep that night without my scarf. The next morning, my hair still felt soft and moisturized so, I applied a bit more to the ends and left my braids alone. Last night, I decided to roll my ends on flexirods, put a plastic cap and then my scarf on. O-M-Geeeee! This morining my hair is SOOOO soft and SOOOO well moisturized! I took one braid down to find that my hair could be styled in a GORGEOUS braidout! But, since I had nowhere to go, I decided to rebraid that hair and leave my hair in these random Celie-type braids. In the meantime, I cannot stop touching my braids to feel how soft and wonderful they feel.

Sistahs! Why have y'all been holding out on me? I share everything so freely! Why didn't someone tell me about the butters? So far, I am in love! Now to try mango and avocado butters to see how I feel about them. I'm very excited and am definitely going to incorporate the butters into my hair and skin care regimens.

So there. No one will be able to say that I hold out on any secrets. I'm telling you about the butters. If you don't know, now ya know. Peace!

I may have to revisit the "butters" because I wasn't too impressed with shea at all. A lot of sistahs swear by it but it did absolutey nothing for my hair. I will try to concoct sumthn and try again...

That's exactly how I felt when I first tried it. I don't know if it's because it's whipped better or what but, it's Tuesday and my hair is STILL feeling moisturized. I really want to do something to my hair --wash, DC...something!--but I don't want to lose this wonderful feeling. Ah well, I have more. I'm on it!

I certainly didn't whip anything when I first used it and it was all sticky and wax like. Girl I just rubbed some together and tried it, I think I axes a Lil oil to it also (hmmm) LOL...anyway, it just didn't feel good at all. I was looking at some mango butter also. I think Ima add that in with some oils and see how it do! Will letcha know how my concoction turns out when I try it again.

Ladies, ladies, ladies, if I had known that you didn't know about the butters, I would have gladly enlightened you. I love shea butter. I love it raw, whipped, any way. It makes my skin feel absolutely amazing and super moisturized. I use it in my daughters hair with a little gel when twisting and her twist outs are absolutely gorgeous! Shea butter is very easy to "play" with add your own oils, jazz it up, make a body scrub by adding oils and sugar as an exfoliator. Happy experimenting!
