3 days 'til my birthday!

Well, we're down to the final countdown. Three days until my birthday and my birthday reveal. Well, I don't know how much of a reveal it will be. Let's just say, three days until I flat iron my hair for my next official length check.

So, what have I been doing these past few days? Trying to get a handle on detangling my hair so that I'm able to flat iron and wear it down for my birthday. I think the down side of my hair growing so quickly is less time to learn how to handle it. I have been frustrated with clumps and knots so crazy that I'd just leave 'em in and decide I'd get to it at a later date. Well, at some point, I had to deal with learning how to handle the knots and detangle without ripping myself bald. That's pretty much what I've been focused on.

First thing that I found that works well for me only makes sense -- close the cuticles. Lifted cuticles tangle and tear at other strands. No amount of conditioner would allow my strands to slide breakage-free from entanglement unless the cuticles are tightly closed. So, I've found that apple cider vinegar (ACV) rinses and aloe juice rinses before detangling with conditioner works wonders for me.

Then I found a miracle. Aussie Moist 3 Minute Miracle, to be exact. I deep conditioned with AM3MM and my hair was butter! So, after my rinse, I deep condition with 3 Minute Miracle (which is only $2.78 at Walmart, btw!) and then carefully finger detangle my hair, carefully pulling ensnared strands free. I use a wide-toothed comb to assist as needed and then, afterwards to be sure that my hair is completely detangled.

Hey, this is a revelation to me. Remember, I haven't had much experience detangling hair at this length. But, thankfully, I have a system that seems to be working for me. So now, I'm able to look forward to doing my hair for my birthday. Oh yeah. I'll be doing my own hair. I was trying to decide whether to do my hair or have it done for my birthday at a Dominican shop. After reading a couple horror stories over the past few days, I've decided that I will DEFINITELY be doing my own hair. I plan to flat iron, trim and then use Caruso rollers to curl my hair.

I'm very excited and anxious at the same time. I hope my ends are in decent shape. I didn't take good care of my hair during the first quarter of this year, as my focus was on my mom. Hopefully, I won't need a major trim but, in any case, I'm not sweating it much. My goal for this year is full hip length and then trim to maintain and neaten up my hemline. I'm hoping to see hip length this summer, which will give me the 2nd half of the year to fix anything that I don't like about my ends and hemline.

Wish me luck! Oh, and no stalls or setbacks! Thanks!
